INTRODUCTION
Leading a holy life in today’s world might be difficult. The world around us is full with diversions and temptations that can easily lead us astray from the path of righteousness. However, as believers, it’s important that we strive to live a godly life, one that is pleasing to God and serves as a light to those around us. So today, we’ll be looking at what it means to be godly, our obstacle as Christian while living a godly life in modern day.
UNDERSTANDING A GODLY LIFE

Let’s define what it means to live a godly life first. In 2 Peter 1:3-4, we read, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” Living a godly life means living in accordance with God’s will and purpose for our lives. It involves being transformed by the renewing of our minds, and living out our faith in practical ways.
WHY IS IT CRUCIAL TO PURSUE GODLINESS?

In 1 Timothy 4:7-8, we read, “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” Living a godly life has value not just for our spiritual life, but for our physical life as well. When we live in accordance with God’s will, we feel calm, joy, and contentment that cannot be found in the things of this world. Living a godly life also serves as a witness to those around us, as we demonstrate the love and character of Christ to those we interact with.
OBSTACLES TO LIVING A GODLY LIFE

Living a godly life in today’s world can be challenging, as there are many obstacles that we may face. These obstacles can include things like temptation, peer pressure, and busyness. However, as believers, we are not without hope. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, we read, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” We may face challenges and obstacles, but we can trust in God’s faithfulness to provide a way out and to strengthen us to overcome them.
TIPS FOR LIVING A GODLY LIFE IN TODAY
Here are some practical tips for living a godly life in today’s world:
1. READ AND STUDY THE BIBLE REGULARLY

As believers, it’s important that we spend time in God’s Word, getting to know Him and His will for our lives. In Psalm 119:105, we read, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” By studying the Bible regularly, we gain wisdom and guidance that can help us navigate the challenges of daily life
2. PRAY REGULARLY

Prayer is our way of communicating with God and seeking His guidance and strength. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, we are instructed to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” When we pray regularly, we are reminded of God’s presence in our lives and can experience peace and comfort in difficult times.
3. BUILD A STRONG COMMUNITY OF FAITH

Surrounding ourselves with other believers can be a source of encouragement and support in our walk with God. In Hebrews 10:24-25, we read, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” By building relationships with other believers, we can grow in our faith and be strengthened to live a godly life.
4. SERVE OTHERS

Living a godly life involves not only our relationship with God, but also our relationship with others. In Matthew 25:40, we read, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” When we serve others, we demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ to those around us.
5. STAY TRUE TO YOUR BELIEFS AND VALUES

In a world that often promotes values that are contrary to God’s Word, it’s important that we remain steadfast in our faith. In Ephesians 6:13-14, we are encouraged to “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.” By staying true to our beliefs and values, we can be a witness to others and live a life that is pleasing to God.
6. RESIST TEMPTATION AND STAY ACCOUNTABLE

Temptation is a common obstacle that we may face in our walk with God. However, we can overcome temptation by relying on the strength of the Holy Spirit and staying accountable to others. In James 4:7, we read, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” By submitting to God and resisting temptation, we can live a life that is pleasing to Him.
7. CULTIVATE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, we read, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” By cultivating an attitude of gratitude, we can find joy and contentment in every situation, and recognize God’s blessings in our lives.
8. SEEK WISE COUNSEL

Proverbs 19:20 says, “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” Seeking wise counsel from other believers, mentors, or pastors can help us make wise decisions and grow in our faith.
9. PRACTICE FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness is a key component of living a godly life. In Colossians 3:13, we are instructed to “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” By practicing forgiveness, we demonstrate the love and grace of Christ to those around us.
10. SHARE THE GOSPEL

As believers, we are called to share the good news of the gospel with those around us. In Mark 16:15, Jesus instructs his disciples to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” By sharing the gospel, we can help others come to know Christ and experience the hope and salvation that He offers.
By following these 10 practical tips, we can live a godly life in today’s world and be a light to those around us.
